Welcome from Mr. Handy
Hello! I am excited to be teaching at Wexler-Grant and feel lucky to have the opportunity. Thank you for being a part of this school as we embark on a journey of learning together.
This year students will undertake a great deal of reading and writing. The best way for me to teach a fun, challenging, enjoyable class is to get to know my students as individuals. I will do my best to cater lessons and instruction towards topics and subjects that interest my classes, while maintaining the rigorous demands of the New Haven Literacy curriculum. Students and parents should expect homework to be assigned nearly every night of the week. Homework will consist of activities that reinforce the skills and strategies we are studying in class.
I know that the daily grind of school is a huge challenge. However, I believe it is one of the most important challenges in life. Before we get there, I want you to get to know me and for me to get to know you. I completed my Bachelor’s degree at Syracuse University and my Master’s degree at the University of New Haven. I come to Wexler-Grant after working in Haddam-Killingworth and East Haven. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy staying active and physically fit. I work as a tennis coach and play basketball and golf regularly. On Sundays in the fall you might find me rooting for my beloved New York Giants. I also enjoy music, film, theater, and the visual arts. I consider myself to be something of a movie and music buff. I hope to share my passions with my students and get to know the things they like to do in their free time as well.
I believe classroom learning is a major step to success in life, but it is not the only step. I hope my students use the skills and strategies they develop in my classroom as the beginning of a lifetime of learning. I am available to help my scholars achieve success and I look forward to working with you and your children. Feel free to reach out and say hello. The year ahead will be challenging and incredibly rewarding.
Thanks for visiting!
